Day 20 of 30: Perfection: Help or Hindrance

DAY 20 of 30!
TIGHT BODY 30 DAY CHALLENGE!
I think we've all been there at one time or another...not taking action on something because it's not the 'perfect' fit yet. For example: I'll start going to the gym when I lose more weight, or I'll go to church after I get a few things straightened out in my life, or I'll start taking dance classes but I have to get better at dancing first. You can read these and laugh, but the truth is, we've all reacted to something or another in our lives, the same way.

PERFECTION

Aah, perfection. Can't stop at a task until it's perfected? Won't start a project because you feel you don't have what it takes for it to turn out perfect? I say, who cares! Don't get me wrong, I'm all about a job well-done, but perfect? Perfect according to who? You? As you can tell, perfection in and of itself is defined differently from person to person. One may complete a task after a significant amount of time, energy, and finances, only to be looked at by another  as 'incomplete', or 'lacking'.  Another can rush through a project only to have a passerby take notice, and feel it's the best thing since ice cream.

WHAT DOES IT BOIL DOWN TO?

It boils down to the standards you set upon yourself, and what you believe is expected of you. For some, perfection is something they feel is obtained only when acceptance is found from others. This is a very dangerous place to be, as you're constantly putting your hard earned work in everyone else's hands, and let's be realistic, you will never please everyone!

DOES PERFECTION KEEP YOU FROM PURSUING YOUR DREAMS / GOALS?

Is there something you've wanted to do for a long time, but haven't because of perfection? If so,

CEASE THE DAY!

That's right, today's focus is on giving up PERFECTION! Don't allow anything to keep you from pursuing what you greatly desire in life. Today, I'd like you to focus on an area that troubles you in regards to perfection, no matter what it is, clean house, perfect kids, something with your career, the perfect relationship, etc., and seriously look at it objectively. Has your drive for perfection helped you, or hindered you in your progress? Some will drive for perfection in one area to the point, other areas of their lives become unbalanced. Is this you? If you find perfection isn't working in your favor, decide what to do with it.

PERFECTION IS LIKE STRESS

IT'S A PERCEPTION

Change the perception, and BINGO! Isn't relief. You are in charge. Perfectionists usually are not only hard on themselves, but also to those around them, as they also expect perfection from others, many times without realizing it. This scenario makes for tense relationships. Relax. Enjoy your project, allow others the same privilege. If something turns out 'perfect', celebrate! If it's less than perfect, accept it. Accept yourself.

YOU'RE PERFECTLY PERFECT!

Yep, imperfections and all!
Big hugs!!!

Have a perfectly wonderful DAY 20!
